July 25 - Eighth Lake State Park to Ticonderoga (NY)
The park was so quiet last night we wondered if anyone else was there. I don't know how it could be so different than all the other campgrounds. No wandering flashlights, no late night cars. We got great night sleeps and still got up before 6. We used our rain flies for the first time in ages, since we expected rain. It was hot at first, but I had to zip mine closed and wrap up in my sleeping bag liner. I've only loosely draped it over me or just had it nearby, it's been so hot. It was 55 degrees when we got up. We broke out clothes we hadn't used in weeks. The sky was clear blue, though, and Mike heard that there was another ozone alert. As soon as the sun hit us the temp jumped to 70 and it was clear that we'd be doing our impression of bacon soon.

Have I mentioned that I love New York? It's so beautiful, just like Puget Sound, but the roads are great. Even (most of) the backroads are well paved with good shoulders. The Adirondacks are tough riding though. The elevation profile can be demonstrated as wwWwW\/\/wwwW\/\/... The capital w's are about 300 feet tall. I'm not sure why my knees don't hurt. Guess taking a few aspirin every few hours works.

We turned off on a little used or maintained road, right past the Jellystone Park campground. There was a huge abandoned Frontier Town advertising wildwest shows with Indians and rodeos. There were a lot of hotels, lodges and resorts that must have gone out of business along with them. It was kind of spooky. We didn't see anything of the 3 hot babes today. I guess we got in front of them. As much as I'd love to meet them and get a picture, I'm not waiting.
