I suppose I should say indulging in Winthrop. Put Taxi Driver back on, realized it had started in the middle. No wonder I couldn't find a plot. Now I just can't figure out the end. Oh well, something to think about.
Didn't leave the room till 10. Then I just walked across the street for breakfast and down the road for some groceries. No phone cord and no bagels. No bagels?! This is serious. I must have at least one bagel and peanut butter each day of my ride. It's mandatory. I needed the phone cord to try to use the room phone line to get online. The wicked woman behind the grocery counter told me there was a hardware store about a mile down the road. After doing laundry in the sink (man, I didn't expect the wash water to be that dirty), I walked down and found the hardware store and the phone line, plus a real grocery store with bagels. Thank you God. The walk felt great, kinda stretched the muscles out the other way. I think my essential parts (feet, knees and butt) will be ready tomorrow.
I spent about an hour trying to come up with right combination of wires to make the 4 line outlet work with my 2 line modem. Didn't manage it. Went up to the office to beg a phone line. She had a computer, fax, and ice machine set up in a room just for guests! I jacked in and uploaded everything and got all your wonderful email. Thanks. She also steered me away from the place I was going for dinner and toward the Grubsteak for pizza. I got one to go and took her a couple of slices while I uploaded a repair to day 3. (I rode 89.1 miles, not 54.5, dammit!)
Watched, or listened to, Yellow Submarine while I did laundry. Been watching and listening to a 30 year celebration of Dylan music the rest of the day. Neil Young did an outrageous All Along the Watchtower. I'd love Jake to see it, he loves Hendrix's version. It was a real treat to see The Band all together. That damn guitar player/band leader from Sat night live after Paul Shafer (E G somebody?) horns into damn near every scene. Don't know how he even got into the audience. I'll probably play the whole thing again anyway. (Geez, George Harrison sucks on Absolutely Suite Marie.) This pizza is incredible, along with a raspberry lemonade a few homemade dark chocolate cherries (stems and all).
Checked the map to make sure I was on schedule, as if one existed. It's pretty clear for the next few days.
